I.    Basic information of membrane structures

Membrane structure is a kind of space structure, which is formed by the high strength flexible membrane material withstanding the tension and compression of other materials and can withstand certain external loads. It is free, light, soft, full of power, flame retardant, easy to make, fast to install, energy-saving, easy to construct, safe to use and other advantages, so it is widely used around the world.

Characteristics of membrane structure:

1. Lightweight: The reason why the dead weight of the tension structure is small is that it relies on the prestressed form rather than materials to maintain the stability of the structure, so that its dead weight is much smaller than that of the traditional building structure, but it has good stability.

2. Light transmittance: the light transmittance of the membrane material can provide the required illumination for the building, which is very important for building energy conservation.

II.   What is PVC building membrane

The commonly used PVC membrane material is polyester fiber covered with polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The main characteristics of PVC materials are low strength, large elasticity, easy aging, large creep, poor self-cleaning, cheap price, easy processing, rich colors, and good folding resistance. In order to improve its performance, a layer of polytetrafluoroethylene coating can be coated on its surface to improve its anti-aging and self-cleaning ability, and its service life can reach about 15 years

III.  Key points for selection of PVC membrane materials:

1) The surface layer of PVC film material shall have stable corrosion resistance and UV resistance within the shelf life, and the surface shall have self-bonding performance.

2) The PVC membrane structure material will have a cave after reaching the melting point in the fire environment, and the boundary of the cave will burn and spread, but no open fire will be generated. According to GB8624 Grading Method for Burning Behavior of Building Materials, it is classified as Class B1 fire-resistant material.

3) The color, light reflection and transmittance of PVC film materials should meet the requirements in the following table.
