“Waterproof tarp” is not one material. The correct choice depends on how long the cover stays outside, how often it moves, whether seams must be welded, and whether breathability is useful or harmful.
Decision factor
PVC coated polyester
PE tarp construction
Canvas / breathable cover
Best fit
Repeated outdoor, industrial, transport and fabricated covers
Temporary, lightweight and economy general coverage
Applications where breathability or condensation control matters
Water barrier
Coated waterproof surface; welded fabrication can help maintain continuity
Can provide a waterproof barrier when laminate and seams are suitable
Often water-resistant rather than intended for prolonged standing water
Fabrication
Well suited to welded panels, reinforced hems and custom hardware
Commonly finished as lightweight tarps; fabrication route depends on construction
Commonly sewn; seam treatment may be required for stronger water resistance
Handling trade-off
Higher durability direction, but heavier grades increase handling weight
Lightweight and convenient, but not always ideal for repeated abrasion
Breathable and flexible, but not the default choice for full waterproof isolation
If lower handling weight and temporary coverage are the main priorities, compare DER factory's existing polyethylene tarps. For repeat-use industrial covers, PVC coated polyester is usually the more fabrication-oriented direction.
